The Good & The Bad of Mumbai.

Writing this thing is very easy for some one from North India(Especially if he/she is from Delhi). The first name the guys get is Saala Delhiwala :-) and the gals gets makeup ke putli :-) (By the way not all women put so much of makeup, may be the Mumbai women are jealous of Delhi gals as they are not able to do the so called loud make-up).

First of All the GOOD PART of Mumbai- I think this is one city in India which is safe for a women. Your wives, girlfriends, sisters and moms are sure that a Rick driver will surely drop them to the place as promised without giving those disgusting looks and comments which are very common in Delhi. The other Good part is that most of the people in Mumbai are very genuine/ trustworthy but i think you find the same breed in Delhi as well. And because of this genuine nature they are little scared to take the risk or look for the alternate (basically jugad- as I am so called in my office jugadu from Delhi)

The BAD- I feel that the Government of this place has done nothing for this city. This city stinks at all corners. You can have the aroma of fish everywhere and by the way people tell me that my office has been made on a dumping ground which works like icing on the cake. Then there are Squatters all over the place helping the city make cleaner day by day. Driving in Mumbai is a pleasure. It is like driving in a rally that too with so much of traffic and such wide roads with hardly any holes. The Drive is so smooth that even my car is begging when we can go back our own city (saada Delhi). Nutshell- Roads are pathetic. And how can i Delhiwala not mention the food available here. This experience is the worst once we went to eat golgapas(pani-puri) in andheri(w) in the month of may. The person who gave us golgapas i dont know where was his mind coz he served us golgapas in hot water(i think golgapas are served with chilled water). My wife and I were shocked after eating those....Please help us and let us know some good PUNJABI eating joints.

AS A DELHIWALA I HAVE FIGURED OUT A JUGAD TO LIKE THIS PLACE :-) BUT OVERALL THE CITY IS COOL, CHILLED OUT & THE PEOPLE WE KNOW ARE REALLY COOL.

I am surprised to see that you have very little to say about the ‘BAD’ things in this city.
I appreciate that this city is the safest among other cities and the auto and taxi are running round the clock. But all these things don’t make a good city. I have to spend double on deo and body spray to get rid of the stink. The entire city is like a urinal for the people living here. They don’t bother about other. Most of the time I saw people spiting on the railway platform, inside train boogie, stair case, on roads and even in temple (I saw this in Siddi vinayak and I had a fight with that guy) and the list goes on…

Nobody here doesn’t care about the traffic signal, not even the traffic police. That day I was waiting at the signal and the policeman started shouting at me because I am the only person waiting for the signal to turn green.

The roads are in pathetic condition. Even thou the roads are wide the traffic is moving at the snail’s pace.

Worst part is the crowd behavior in public transport. They are so used to it even in empty train or bus they are pushing the people and getting in. They don’t think that we have to allow the people to alight first then get inside. So many times I saw poor people struck inside with kids and not able to come out.

I am not pin pointing all bad thing in this city. It’s our place; we are living here and it’s our duty to make others and our self to feel comfortable.

Hi Siva...

Thankfully I read ur last para, so the response is little Milder....

About the "BAD" things which u pointed out.... U cud probably replace Mumbai with any other city in India or the world for that matter....Having travelled extensively across India, especially metros, I can vouch for that.

If u're talking of traffic, Bangalore sucks equally bad if not more.. The traffic jams have replaced the legendary Mumbai and Kolkata from their high pedestals......

Talking of stink....u can't help that the sea is so close by...so it does smell.. ahem.. FISHY.... but the general junk is there in every city, garbage strewn across a dustbin...not in it...of course with the exception of Chandigarh and Pondicherry...

Of course I'm amazed to hear ur experience of a guy spitting in Siddhi Vinayak.... shocking..but then maybe we shud visit Mathura... the heartland of Hindu pious ism or the Charminar maybe...Hats off to u in ticking that stupid fellow off and driving some sense into him.

I could go on and on....am not for one moment trying to say that all these things are good or are not present in Mumbai....but we could show some more respect...

Lastly, it's also the city of opportunities and the one that's given us so much... u get the highest salaried jobs here...so how does it matter if it doesn't have the climate of a Shimla or a Manali... we gotta compensate somewhere...

P.S. I do not belong to Mumbai...

Hi Dear,

My comments would be the same if I live in any metro.

I have been to almost all metros and I would rate Mumbai the least in hygiene and traffic. You can check the same in recently published survey conducted by AC neilsen. In top ten metros Mumbai is in last place for hygiene.

Firstly why are you comparing Mumbai (or any other metro city) with any other metros? Check Singapore and Japan, 40 yrs before they were behind us and now they are far ahead of us. We have to learn from them and educate our people. One person can’t change the entire system. Collectively we have to create awareness among people. Don’t compromise by saying we are better than Bangalore and Kolkatta. We have to compete with international city for better tomorrow. I hope you will agree with me.

Definitely agree on this count SIVA...

Don't want to imagine living in any city bursting at it's seams and tottering on the edge...Am sure we all have to put in our bit for a better and cleaner tomorrow

duggi...i have so much to say on this...but may not say so much...as there is a monopoloy in mumbai and people just are not open to listening...

well - ur golgappa episode...the water was not hot...they put in hot cholla's in it...i go to spencers in inorbit to have decent gogappe...try it u will like...

Siva -the traffic signal thingie happens to me every day...i wait on red light following rules...and people behind me should and honk cursing me...as if i am doing something wrong...at times i have to come under public pressure and jump the light (else they might just start stoning me)- btw - wide roads where????

u know all the cities have its good and bad...and i am ok loving mumbai's bad as well - but never will be able to - just for one reason....

the discrimination and the hatered of mumbaikars towards northindians specially delhietes...no i am not taking of mns guys and other gunda's...i am talking of so called educated and well placed folks....they treat these two cities like india pakistan...cannot stand anyone from delhi, or anything abt them...i personally have experienced it...hence am saying this. It is such a shame, that for every mumbaikar - mumbai comes before their country.
